SAGE to publish The British Journal of Occupational Therapy

June 2, 2014

Los Angeles, CA - SAGE, a leading independent academic and professional publisher, today announced that as of January 2015 it will be publishing one of the foremost occupational therapy journals, The British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT).

Previously self published, The British Journal of Occupational Therapy is the official research journal of the College of Occupational Therapists; the only professional body for occupational therapists in the UK, with a membership of nearly 30,000. With the publication of research on the effectiveness, benefits, and value of occupational therapy, its aim is to disseminate international articles relevant to theory, practice, research, education, and management in occupational therapy. A monthly peer-reviewed publication, with a current impact factor of 1.096, it is read by occupational therapists, service users and key stakeholders, all seeking evidence-based research to help them make more informed decisions. BJOT publishes research articles, critical reviews, practice analysis, opinion pieces, editorials, letters to the editor, and book reviews. In addition, a guest-edited special issue on a topical theme is published annually. BJOT aims to be the publication of choice for people to access, disseminate, and guide the implementation of occupational therapy knowledge and evidence worldwide.

“SAGE is developing a leading publishing programme in allied health, and we are delighted to extend this programme further by publishing the College of Occupational Therapist's prestigious journal, The British Journal of Occupational Therapy”, said Karen Phillips, Editorial Director, SAGE. “The British Journal of Occupational Therapy has gained an excellent reputation for publishing high quality material to support and inform researchers within occupational therapy, and we are looking forward to working with the editorial team to further extend and support its international offering, readership and impact.”

Professor Diane Cox, Chair of the BJOT Editorial Board further commented, “Evidence-based practice is a fundamental component in a thriving occupational therapy research community. The key purpose of The British Journal of Occupational Therapy is to support this community with access to this key content. In SAGE we found a publisher who not only understood and was closely aligned to our research, practice and dissemination goals, but one whom will be able to further extend and support our key mission and aims, and provide an enhanced digital experience for our members and subscribers. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship, and to seeing the journal grow in strength and international reach with SAGE.”
