The Landscape of Qualitative Research
The Landscape of Qualitative Research, Fourth Edition aims to put the field of qualitative research in context. It offers background on the field, starting with history, then action research and the academy, and the politics and ethics of qualitative research. It then isolates what we regard as the major historical and contemporary paradigms now structuring and influencing qualitative research in the human disciplines. The chapters move from competing paradigms (positivist, postpositivist, constructivist, critical theory) to specific interpretive perspectives, feminisms, racialized discourses, cultural studies, sexualities, and queer theory. It concludes with consideration for the future of qualitative research.
A state of the art research book on qualitative research for the seasoned researcher and those pursuing post graduate studies.
This book gives a very thorough yet easily understood account of all the key concepts - a fantastic resource.
This volume concentrates on the philosophical and social aspects of qualitative research (the social more than the philosophical, but there is significant overlap). Of the three volumes, this provides the broadest intellectual setting, but the least in terms of practical knowhow regarding the undertaking of qualitative research (for that, the Collecting and Interpreting volume is a brilliant choice.). Thus, this volume is ideal for the researcher who is looking for intellectual material to rationalize and support quals as the research approach. It is a fine companion piece for the other two volumes, but is of slightly less value than the others to the practical researcher.
Excellent depth of discussion, across a range of qualitative perspectives
A fantatsic analysis and practical examples for any student that is/will enage in qualitative research. The book not only deals with theoretical issues, but also analyses the practical implication when employing a particular theoretical paradigm.
Although this book has in-depth information on qualitative research methods, it would be more suitable for postgraduate students. However, I would recommend sections of this for some of my more academic dissertation students. I would also recommend this to our postgraduate research students.
An excellent introduction to the complexities of qualitative research.
A key text for business students embarking on a research study.
will be recommending for masters students
useful addition to our suggested titles
