Social Science Information is a major international forum for the analysis and debate of trends and approaches in social science research. Based at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris and publishing articles in both English and French, the journal provides a space for innovative theoretical as well as empirical contributions to issues that transcend the framework of the traditional disciplines. Given its international orientation, contributions of a comparative or cross-cultural nature are particularly welcome.
SSI is an interdisciplinary journal with strong bases in some areas of the disciplines of anthropology, sociology, history, and economics, and to some extent of psychology, philosophy, and political science. Contributions are welcome from all of these disciplines, but in particular when they address challenging and comprehensive issues in the analysis of major social transformations and promote innovative conceptual approaches.
SSI aims to contribute to overcoming fragmentation and over-specialization in current social-science research. Comprehensive and original contributions will tend to be of a tentative nature, trying out new avenues on terrains that are far from being well known. The journal welcomes trend reports on intellectually stimulating new developments to make them more widely known and to offer a space to assess their significance in answering key questions of scholarship in our time.

Information sur les Sciences Sociales est une revue scientifique de calibre international dont la vocation est de contribuer au contenu et à l'analyse des tendances, comme des approches, liées à la recherche contemporaine en sciences sociales.
Basée à la Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, à Paris, la revue publie des articles en français et en anglais, offrant ainsi un espace bilingue à des contributions théoriques et/ou empiriques novatrices répondant à des questions qui, par définition, transcendent le cadre des disciplines traditionnelles. Compte tenu de cette orientation, les contributions de nature comparative ou interculturelle sont particulièrement bienvenues.
SSI est une revue à vocation interdisciplinaire, mais qui se nourrit de solides bases disciplinaires, comptant notamment sur l'anthropologie, la sociologie, l'histoire ou l'économie, et dans une certaine mesure la science politique, la philosophie et la psychologie pour offrir aux sciences sociales les moyens d'une cohésion. Des contributions en provenance de toutes ces disciplines sont recherchées, en particulier lorsqu'elles abordent des problèmes complexes et qu'elles s'attachent à l'analyse des principales transformations sociales actuelles comme d'ailleurs à la promotion d'approches conceptuelles novatrices.
SSI vise ainsi à surmonter la fragmentation et la surspécialisation dans la recherche scientifique contemporaine. Les contributions complètes et originales auront donc tendance à être de nature dynamique, expérimentant avec de nouvelles avenues, sur des terrains qui sont loin d'être entièrement stabilisés. La revue accueille ainsi les rapports de tendances sur les nouveaux développements intellectuellement stimulants, et ce, dans le but de les faire connaître plus largement, offrant alors un espace pour évaluer leur importance tout en tâchant de répondre aux questions clés de l'érudition dans notre époque.

Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the aims and scope of Social Science Information will be reviewed.
There are no fees payable to submit or publish in this Journal. Open Access options are available - see section 3.3 below.
As part of the submission process you will be required to warrant that you are submitting your original work, that you have the rights in the work, that you are submitting the work for first publication in the Journal and that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere and has not already been published elsewhere, and that you have obtained and can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you.

Social Science Information is a major international forum for the analysis and debate of trends and approaches in social science research and teaching.
Fully peer reviewed, it publishes articles in both English and French, the journal offers a unique window on research currently taking place internationally and in collaboration with the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris.
Social Science Information is cross-disciplinary, presenting research from a broad range of perspectives, including:

The journal also regularly publishes Symposia on specific themes and theme-oriented special issues. It wishes to encourage submission of trend reports.
Social Science Information is an international, interdisciplinary, generalist journal that publishes the highest quality original research in the social sciences at large with special focus on theoretical debates, methodology and comparative particularly cross-cultural research. The journal considers the following kinds of articles for publication:
Theoretical and methodological articles in a wide range of disciplines across the social sciences: anthropology; sociology; psychology; philosophy; political sciences; economics.
Review articles or trend reports presenting the state of the art in a given discipline or in a given research field; the journal particularly encourages the presentation and discussion of emerging original research topics across the social sciences.
Comparative particularly cross-cultural studies in prominent research fields.
Book reviews are occasionally published (please contact the editor in advance).
Symposia on specific research topics appear occasionally (please contact the editor in advance).
Special issues on a specific topic -- including contributions from a range of disciplines and authors from different countries -- with the participation of (a) guest editor(s), are invited twice a year (please contact the editor in advance).
Full papers are generally restricted to a maximum of 12,000 words, including all elements (title page, abstract, notes, references, tables, biographical statement, etc.). We are reluctant to burden our referees with very long manuscripts. Authors who suspect that their articles will have to be cut anyway should make the required deletions before submitting.

Sage Author Services also offers authors a variety of ways to improve and enhance their article including English language editing, plagiarism detection, and video abstract and infographic preparation.
1.3.1 Make your article discoverable
When writing up your paper, think about how you can make it discoverable. The title, keywords and abstract are key to ensuring readers find your article through search engines such as Google. Social Science Information operates a strictly anonymous peer review process in which the reviewer’s name is withheld from the author and, the author’s name from the reviewer. The reviewer may at their own discretion opt to reveal their name to the author in their review but our standard policy practice is for both identities to remain concealed. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees. All manuscripts are reviewed as rapidly as possible, and an editorial decision is generally reached within 8-12 weeks of submission.
Authors must confirm that their contributions have not been published and are not under simultaneous review for publication elsewhere.
As part of the submission process you will be asked to provide the names of X peers who could be called upon to review your manuscript. Recommended reviewers should be experts in their fields and should be able to provide an objective assessment of the manuscript. Please be aware of any conflicts of interest when recommending reviewers. Examples of conflicts of interest include (but are not limited to) the below:

- The reviewer should have no prior knowledge of your submission
- The reviewer should not have recently collaborated with any of the authors
- Reviewer nominees from the same institution as any of the authors are not permitted
Please note that the Editors are not obliged to invite any recommended/opposed reviewers to assess your manuscript.
All parties who have made a substantive contribution to the article should be listed as authors. Principal authorship, authorship order, and other publication credits should be based on the relative scientific or professional contributions of the individuals involved, regardless of their status. A student is usually listed as principal author on any multiple-authored publication that substantially derives from the student’s dissertation or thesis.
Please note that AI chatbots, for example ChatGPT, should not be listed as authors. For more information see the policy on Use of ChatGPT and generative AI tools.
All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an Acknowledgements section. Examples of those who might be acknowledged include a person who provided purely technical help, or a department chair who provided only general support.
Please supply any personal acknowledgements separately to the main text to facilitate anonymous peer review.
2.3.1 Third party submissions
Where an individual who is not listed as an author submits a manuscript on behalf of the author(s), a statement must be included in the Acknowledgements section of the manuscript and in the accompanying cover letter. The statements must:
- Disclose this type of editorial assistance – including the individual’s name, company and level of input
- Identify any entities that paid for this assistance
- Confirm that the listed authors have authorized the submission of their manuscript via third party and approved any statements or declarations, e.g. conflicting interests, funding, etc.
Where appropriate, Sage reserves the right to deny consideration to manuscripts submitted by a third party rather than by the authors themselves.
Social Science Information requires all authors to acknowledge their funding in a consistent fashion under a separate heading. Please visit the Funding Acknowledgements page on the Sage Journal Author Gateway to confirm the format of the acknowledgment text in the event of funding, or state that: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.
2.5 Declaration of conflicting interests

Sage is committed to upholding the integrity of the academic record. We encourage authors to refer to the Committee on Publication Ethics’ International Standards for Authors and view the Publication Ethics page on the Sage Author Gateway
3.1.1 Plagiarism
Social Science Information and Sage take issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism or other breaches of best practice in publication very seriously. We seek to protect the rights of our authors and we always investigate claims of plagiarism or misuse of published articles. Equally, we seek to protect the reputation of the journal against malpractice. Submitted articles may be checked with duplication-checking software. Where an article, for example, is found to have plagiarised other work or included third-party copyright material without permission or with insufficient acknowledgement, or where the authorship of the article is contested, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to: publishing an erratum or corrigendum (correction); retracting the article; taking up the matter with the head of department or dean of the author's institution and/or relevant academic bodies or societies; or taking appropriate legal action.
3.1.2 Prior publication
If material has been previously published it is not generally acceptable for publication in a Sage journal. However, there are certain circumstances where previously published material can be considered for publication. Please refer to the guidance on the Sage Author Gateway or if in doubt, contact the Editor at the address given below.
3.2 Contributor's publishing agreement
Before publication, Sage requires the author as the rights holder to sign a Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement. Sage’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement is an exclusive licence agreement which means that the author retains copyright in the work but grants Sage the sole and exclusive right and licence to publish for the full legal term of copyright. Exceptions may exist where an assignment of copyright is required or preferred by a proprietor other than Sage. In this case copyright in the work will be assigned from the author to the society. 3.3 Open access and author archiving
Social Science Information offers optional open access publishing via the Sage Choice programme and Open Access agreements, where authors can publish open access either discounted or free of charge depending on the agreement with Sage. 4. Preparing your manuscript for submission
The preferred format for your manuscript is Word. LaTeX files are also accepted. Word and (La)Tex templates are available on the Manuscript Submission Guidelines page of our Author Gateway.
4.2 Artwork, figures and other graphics
For guidance on the preparation of illustrations, pictures and graphs in electronic format, please visit Sage’s Manuscript Submission Guidelines
Figures supplied in colour will appear in colour online regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version. For specifically requested colour reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding the costs from Sage after receipt of your accepted article.

5.2 Information required for completing your submission
You will be asked to provide contact details and academic affiliations for all co-authors via the submission system and identify who is to be the corresponding author. These details must match what appears on your manuscript. At this stage please ensure you have included all the required statements and declarations and uploaded any additional supplementary files (including reporting guidelines where relevant).
Please also ensure that you have obtained any necessary permission from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures or lengthy quotations previously published elsewhere. 6. On acceptance and publication
Your Sage Production Editor will keep you informed as to your article’s progress throughout the production process. Proofs will be sent by PDF to the corresponding author and should be returned promptly. Authors are reminded to check their proofs carefully to confirm that all author information, including names, affiliations, sequence and contact details are correct, and that Funding and Conflict of Interest statements, if any, are accurate.
Online First allows final articles (completed and approved articles awaiting assignment to a future issue) to be published online prior to their inclusion in a journal issue, which significantly reduces the lead time between submission and publication.
